The Formula
What Makes a Clean Laundry Detergent? Most conventional detergents contain somewhere between 15 and 30 ingredients, including optical brighteners, synthetic dyes, phosphates, and microplastics. Ours contains five. That was a deliberate choice. Every single one earned its place. Every single ingredient in Spill That Laundry detergent, explained.

Base formulation — 5 ingredients
Lauryl Glucoside
Primary surfactant
Plant-derived from coconut oil and glucose. One of the gentlest surfactants that exist. Fully biodegradable.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Co-surfactant
Coconut-derived cleaning booster. Enhances foaming and works at lower temperatures. Readily biodegradable.
Ethanol
Solvent
Plant-derived alcohol. Disperses fragrance evenly and keeps the product stable without synthetic preservatives.
Citric Acid
pH balance
Naturally occurring, fermentation-produced. Softens hard water and protects colour vibrancy. Replaces synthetic EDTA.
Sodium Hydroxide
pH adjuster
Trace amounts to fine-tune pH. Fully neutralised by other ingredients. The most understood pH adjuster in chemistry.

Why this matters
No hormone disruptors¹
Some conventional detergents include ingredients linked to endocrine disruption — parabens, phthalates, certain preservatives. We choose to leave them out.
Our formulation contains no substances identified as endocrine disruptors at ≥0.1%, per supplier safety data sheets (MSDS).
What we never use
A formula is as much about what's absent.
Safety & compliance
*Calculated per ISO 16128, including water. Surfactants, builders and fragrance derived from a mix of natural and synthetic origin.
